Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated) are running 9% behind 2024 year-to-date through the first half of the year at 274 MMBF, according to June 2025 data from the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Services’ Global Agricultural Trade System.
They were, however, up 24% over the first quarter of 2025 but down 6% over the second quarter of 2024. When looking at the report on a monthly basis, June 2025 was down 18% over June 2024 and down 7.6% over May 2025.
When looking at the report by dollar value, Southern Pine exports are running 7% behind 2024 YTD at $108.5 million. Mexico leads the way YTD at $31.7 million, followed by the Dominican Republic at $22million, and India at $7.7 million. Despite being down YTD, the value of Southern Pine exports is up 17% over the first quarter of 2025, but down 7% over the same quarter in 2024.
Treated lumber exports, meanwhile, were running 4% behind 2024 YTD at $66.7 million. The Leeward-Windward Islands lead the way through the first half of the year at $10.5 million, followed by Jamaica at $8.3 million, and Barbados at $6.7 million. When looking at treated lumber exports by quarter, the value was up 35% over the first quarter of 2024 to $28.3 million and up 11% over the second quarter of 2024.
Softwood lumber imports are down 5% through the first half of 2025 at 6.8 MMBF compared to the same period in 2024.

Our international consultants weighed in with the following key takeaways on Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated) export numbers among countries reporting more than 1 MMBF of imports through the first half of 2025:
- Mexico remains the largest export market (by volume) of Southern Pine and treated lumber but is down 12% through the first half of the year with 72.9 MMBF.
- The Dominican Republic, the No. 2 importer of Southern Pine, continued its slow start to 2025, down 24% with 41 MMBF.
- Canada, which is now the No. 5 importer of Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated), is running 3% ahead 2024 YTD at 14.7 MMBF.
- India also continues its sluggish start to 2025, down 31% YTD with 13.3 MMBF.
- The Philippines posted another surge, moving to an 86% increase over 2024, with 3.9 MMBF through June 2025.
- Pakistan, meanwhile, showed a slight dip, down 11% with 7.2 MMBF so far in 2025.
- Exports to China, now the 15th largest importer, are down 49% YTD at 3.7 MMBF.
- The following countries in the Caribbean and Central American region, outside of Mexico and the Dominican Republic mentioned above, imported more than 1 MMBF through June 2025:
- Jamaica: the third-largest export market was down 16% through the first six months of 2025 with 23 MMBF.
- The Leeward-Windward Islands: up 3% YTD with 16 MMBF.
- The Bahamas: up 9% with 11.4 MMBF.
- Barbados: up 113% to 10.7 MMBF.
- Netherland Antilles: up 47% at 9 MMBF.
- Belize: up 10% year-over-year with 7.3 MMBF.
- Haiti: up 29% with 6.4 MMBF.
- Trinidad and Tobago: down 16% with 4.2 MMBF.
- Honduras: up 197% with 2.5 MMBF.
- Cayman Islands: down 28% at 2.4 MMBF.
- El Salvador: up 304% with 1.4 MMBF.
- Turks and Caicos: down 21% with 1.4 MMBF.
