July 2025 Southern Pine lumber exports (treated and untreated) gained ground and are now running just 4% behind 2025 year to date at 329.8 MMBF, according to July 2025 data from the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Services’ Global Agricultural Trade System.

The 56 MMBF exported in July 2025 was up 35.6% over July 2024 and up 23.9% over June 2025.

When looking at the report by dollar value, Southern Pine exports are now running just 1% behind 2024 YTD at $128.3 million. Mexico continues to lead the way YTD at $37.7 million, followed by the Dominican Republic at $25.3 million, and India at $9.9 million.

Treated lumber exports, meanwhile, are running 1% ahead of 2024 YTD at $15.4 million. The Leeward-Windward Islands lead the way through the first half of the year at $13.3 million, followed by Jamaica at $11.1 million, and Belize at $7.5 million.

Softwood lumber imports are down 3% through July 2025 at 8.2 MMBF compared to the same period in 2024.

Our international consultants weighed in with the following key takeaways on Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated) export numbers among countries reporting more than 1 MMBF of imports through July 2025:

  • Mexico remains the largest export market (by volume) of Southern Pine and treated lumber but is down 8% through July with 87.3 MMBF.
  • The Dominican Republic, the No. 2 importer of Southern Pine, is down 15% with 49.9 MMBF.
  • Canada, the No. 5 importer of Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated), is running 10% ahead 2024 YTD at 17.6 MMBF.
  • India remains 22% down over 2024 with 17.2 MMBF.
  • Pakistan is also down 14% with 7.7 MMBF so far in 2025.
  • The Philippines posted another surge, moving to an 89% increase over 2024 YTD, with 4.3 MMBF.
  • Exports to China, the 15th largest importer, are down 57% YTD at 3.7 MMBF.
  • The following countries in the Caribbean and Central American region, outside of Mexico and the Dominican Republic mentioned above, imported more than 1 MMBF through July 2025:
    • Jamaica: the third-largest export market was down 2% through July 2025 over the year with 30.6 MMBF.
    • The Leeward-Windward Islands: up 4% YTD with 20.4 MMBF.
    • The Bahamas: up 14% with 13.6 MMBF.
    • Barbados: up 109% to 12.2 MMBF.
    • Netherland Antilles: up 36% at 9.9 MMBF.
    • Belize: up 28% year-over-year with 9.2 MMBF.
    • Haiti: up 40% with 8.3 MMBF.
    • Trinidad and Tobago: down 12% with 5.1 MMBF.
    • Honduras: up 264% with 3.1 MMBF.
    • Cayman Islands: down 26% at 2.7 MMBF.
    • Turks and Caicos: down 24% with 1.7 MMBF.
    • El Salvador: up 172% with 1.5 MMBF.
    • Guatemala: up 305% with 1.2 MMBF.
    • Costa Rica: up 24% with 1.1 MMBF.
    • Panama: down 52% with 1.1 MMBF.

 

  • Other countries of note:
    • Vietnam: up 46% over the year on 3.6 MMBF.
    • Colombia: down 16% with 3.3 MMBF.
    • France: down 5% with 1.6 MMBF.
    • Taiwan: down 61% YTD with 1.5 MMBF.
    • Netherlands: down 33% with 1.4 MMBF.
    • Egypt: down 36% on 1.1 MMBF.
    • United Kingdom: down 6% with 1.1 MMBF.
