Nicole Butler Named AWPA’s Next Executive Vice President

Nicole Butler

The American Wood Protection Association Executive Committee has announced Nicole Butler will be its next executive vice president and secretary, effective January 1, 2024. This selection is the culmination of a long and detailed search process, which began in early 2023.

“As a long-term supporter of the American Wood Protection Association, the Southern Forest Products Association is delighted to welcome Nicole as AWPA’s Executive Vice President,” said Eric Gee, SFPA?s executive director. “We’re confident in her leadership skills and look forward to continuing membership and participation with AWPA.”

AWPA received resumes and proposals from 244 individuals and organizations in April and May. Nicole will join AWPA at the 2023 Fall Technical Committee Meetings in Denver, and her transition period into her new role will take place in the fourth quarter of 2023 and first quarter of 2024.

“I am honored to take on the role of executive vice president at AWPA,” Butler said. “I am dedicated to leveraging both my experience as well as the vast knowledge resources within AWPA to continue to position AWPA standards as the backbone of the wood preserving industry. I look forward to partnering with the executive committee, organizational sponsors, technical committees, and general members to continue to build a successful future for AWPA.”

Butler spent the past 23 years working at the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), a leading technology and solutions development organization for the information and communications technology industry. Beginning as a committee associate (part of her work included editing for ASC O5 Wood Utility Products before AWPA took over as secretariat), Butler worked her way up to director of strategic initiatives.

Her work has offered her insight into nearly every aspect of the standards development process, which includes ANSI requirements, consensus building, committee management, meeting planning, membership recruitment/retention, charting an organization’s strategic direction and advancing its industry goals.
