American Softwoods representatives report success at Indiawood 2020! In late February/ early March, American Softwoods representatives attended Indiawood in Bangalore, India to acquire more knowledge of the Indian market for softwood lumber and establish relationships with leading Indian lumber importers.

The five-day show is a long-haul for exhibitors but proved productive. 162 written inquiries were gathered over the course of the show, a strong number compared to the 151 collected in 2018, and 168 gathered at Delhiwood in 2019. Since 2005, AmSo has exhibited at 14 trade shows in India and the results of these efforts are undeniable. In 2019 a new record for American softwoods sales in India was set at $25.22 million and the amount of #1 and #2 grade wood being sold is increasing. Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) was the dominant species sold and is an effective competitor with radiata pine in Indian markets.

Representatives are hopeful that 2020 will be another record year of sales based on their observations at Indiawood. Several Indian importers stated that SYP is their wood of choice and the level of knowledge of American softwoods species and grades is improving among buyers.
