Lumber Shipments

SFPA tabulates monthly Southern Pine shipment totals in collaboration with the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau (SPIB) and Timber Products Inspection (TP) and has annual shipment data going back to 1915.

may 2025 Shipments

Southern Pine lumber shipments in May totaled 2.055 billion board feet (BBF), 6% above April’s revised shipments of 1.947 BBF.

Southern Pine Exports, Softwood Lumber Imports

SFPA compiles monthly data on Southern Pine lumber exports and softwood lumber imports from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Trade System (GATS).

Export totals by all countries focus on dressed and rough Southern Yellow Pine and treated lumber. Import totals, meanwhile, include all softwood lumber imported to the United States by USDA partners. SFPA’s analysis, which includes commentary, trends, and insight from our international consultants, focuses on month-over-month and year-over-year totals and comparisons.

Q2 2025 Exports

Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated) are running 9% behind 2024 year-to-date through the first half of the year at 274 MMBF, according to June 2025 data from the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Services’ Global Agricultural Trade System.

They were, however, up 24% over the first quarter of 2025 but down 6% over the second quarter of 2024. When looking at the report on a monthly basis, June 2025 was down 18% over June 2024 and down 7.6% over May 2025.
