Before starting construction of any deck or porch project, be sure to verify local building code requirements regarding proper handrail height and spindle spacing.

An American Classic:
The Chippendale design, made of 2×2 material, topped with a 2×4 handrail. Double-sawn kerfs accent the top of the 6×6 posts.

Simply Modern:
Narrowly spaced 2×2 spindles add a contemporary look between 6×6 posts. Spindles are trimmed to a 45-degree angle top and bottom.

Add Color:
Let the railings do the job! Flanked by 2×2 spindles, arrow-shaped slices of 1×6 and 1×4 material are painted contrasting colors, adding sparkle to the deck design.

Horizontal Railing:
Alternating railings of 2×2 with 1×4 (tightly spaced) create a screening effect. Ready-made caps and screw-in finials top the 4×4 posts.
