Grade Descriptions
Based on SPIB Grading Rules
Visually Graded Dimension Lumber: 2" to 4" thick, 2" and wider
Prime Dimension: 2" to 4" thick, 2" to 12" wide
Timbers: 5" x 5" and larger
Mechanically Graded Lumber - Machine Stress Rated (MSR) Lumber: 2" and less in thickness, 2" and wider
Mechanically Graded Lumber - Machine Evaluated Lumber (MEL):
2" and less in thickness, 2" and wider
E-rated Structural Laminations: 2" and less in thickness, 2" and wider
Glued Lumber: 4" and less in thickness, widths vary by product
Scaffold Plank: 2" and 3" thick, 8" and wider
Stadium Grade: 2" thick, 4" to 12" wide
Seawall Grades: 2" to 4" thick, 6" to 14" wide
Marine Grades: 1" to 20" thick, 2" to 20" wide
Decking, Heavy Roofing and Heavy Shiplap: 2" to 4" thick, 2" and wider
Boards: 1" to 1-1/2" thick, 2" and wider
Industrial Lumber: 2" and thicker, 2" and wider
